STUDIO PROJECT #8 - PHOTO, MATERIAL + COLLAGE

For this project, you will be using photos of one type / category of subject to construct a collage of a completely different object or subject. Human subjects / parts cannot be used for either part of the project (either the original photographs or the final collaged-image.

STEP 1 - INTRODUCTION

Be sure to review the description and requirements posted to the Canvas assignment. Be specific enough with your starting photo category that you have enough of a variety to choose from, but do not be so general that you have too many options. Make sure that your starting photo category and your final collaged object / subject are VERY different.

Step 2 - Selecting +Printing Images

Photos can be black and white or in color. They should be varied enough that there are enough options for both details and larger areas / shapes of value or texture.

STEP 3 - Cutting + Assembling Collage

When cutting out elements to assemble into the collage, use a few reference images. Look for similar shapes in both the reference image and the photographs you are cutting and re-assembling. Think about scale, composition, perspective, layering and contrast (between different elements in the collage).

STEP 4 - Fixing the Collage

Use scotch tape (clear) or glue to attach the different cut-out elements to your sketchbook page. Use the negative space between cut-outs to create some lines, if possible. Attach major foundation elements first, then add in smaller details to avoid movement in the entire image.
