NETFLIX + KRILL: PROTOTYPING STRUCTURE/EXAMPLE

TITLE SLIDE WITH UNIQUE GAME NAME

INTRO SLIDE OR SLIDES

Include - game pitch, compelling summary and/or interesting highlights + features. This should be geared to a general audience.

Prototyping Slides

Game Design Process

One to two slides to introduce the gameplay to an informed audience {other collectives, 170 peers, instructors, etc} and describe the behind-the-scenes, prototyping process for the game design component of the project. Gameplay description should be concise, and does not need to cover ALL of the details, rules, instructions, etc.

This section can include: Gameplay diagrams, important reference materials, critical mechanic or dynamic summaries, play-testing documentation/feedback + any challenges, discoveries + failures.

Visual Design Process

One to two slides to introduce the visual design process to an informed audience {other collectives, 170 peers, instructors, etc} and describe the behind-the-scenes, prototyping process for the visual design components of the project.

Summary does not need to cover ALL of the deliverables or drafts, just the highlights from the prototyping process. This section can include:

Sketches + wireframes, visual references materials, critical layout designs, visual iterations / feedback, and any challenges, discoveries + failures. Not ALL of this is required - use this space to highlight the important parts of the visual design process.

Deliverables

Six to eight slides that feature and describe the deliverables for the project. More complex deliverables - such as Rule Books or “How-To-Play” components - should not be limited to a single slide. Use this space to show off the deliverables, and provide brief textual context for how they would be presented to players and how they function within the game. Don’t go overboard on these descriptions - the visuals should take up the majority of the space.

Very complex files can be additionally submitted as pdfs, but try to include as much as you can in the slide presentation, such as multiple angles, backs / fronts for double sided pieces, multiple pages, etc.

For visual designs that are part of a group, consider a slide / layout that exhibits them all together (to show-off cohesion / unity) followed by slides with 1 - 2 per page with more details.

These strategies can also be used to present this type of visual design in a portfolio.

Deliverables List

  • Detailed “how-to-play” component: Rule Book, Player Instructions, Intro Video / Trailer (Digital or Physical)

  • At least 6 visual “immersive” components: Can include props, printed game pieces, cards, game-boards, or other printed elements like invites, game-currency, awards, etc. Designs should be print-ready, but do not need to be printed to submit.

  • Bonus “promo” piece - surprises welcome / encouraged
