NOWEREWOLVES: Prototype Submission Example
Below is an example of ONE way to organize a slide deck to present the collective prototype submission for NoWerewolves! I posted this to give everyone a few more guidelines, especially since visual prototyping can be harder to describe. The slide deck below is for a collective that focused more on the visual designs. If your collective was more focused on systems designs, the slide deck should have more Gameplay Prototypes slides and content, and a few less Visual Prototyping slides, however, it is important to still show some of your visual process.
This is NOT the ONLY way to organize submissions or design the presentation - it is only a single example. The visual design of the slides should match your collective game’s narrative and theme, or be neutral. I encourage everyone to show their process via some prototyping slides, and also include those final deliverables: 6 card designs + Player Instructions. Make sure to give those deliverables plenty of space to shine. The packaging design / mock-ups is now a bonus deliverable.
Title Slide / Intro Slide
Pitch / Summary Slide
This is the chance to introduce the game and pitch the gameplay, narrative, etc. This can help establish the theme of your game {and set the tone for the presentation}. Can also introduce collective names, other info.
Gameplay Prototypes + Diagrams
If your collective was more system’s design focused, there should be additional content or slides here, but all collectives + games should have at least 1 slide dedicated to demonstrating the core gameplay strcucture + added mechanic (even if it was a minimal addition). The diagram in this example is a placeholder only, and is not complete.
Visual Prototyping Slides
This is your opportunity to show the game’s visual process. How did you decide on a color scheme, select typefaces and develop layout / visual design systems? It is helpful to show some kind of progression with these slides (go from broad to more specific). It can be interesting to include some directions and designs that ultimately did not make it into the finalized deliverables, but try to keep that progression focused on where the designs did end up. The requirements for this include: Mood, Color Schemes, Fonts / Typography + Layout / Designs. Some of these can be combined together, or can be dedicated to 1 slide each. For more systems focused collectives, you might have less of these slides, but all collectives + games should have at least 1 - 2.
Artwork Prototyping
Depending on your game, there could be a section dedicated to showing artwork prototypes - such as multiple character designs. This is another chance to show your collective’s process - its great to include sketches and concept work in these slides, as well as more finalized artwork.
PORTFOLIO PIECES / FINAL DELIVERABLES
These slides should focus on the final deliverables due for this prompt. Give enough space to fill the slide and show-off all the details - don’t try to fit all 6 card design onto a single slide. If instructions are multiple pages, place on multiple slides, and if they are digital (or include media) embed links and also provide screenshots as a visual to work with. Collectives can also submit additional finalized files (such as a pdfs), if the slides cannot communicate the full designs or level of detail (such as a 10 page instruction booklet).
I have only included 1 finalized card design here and the instructions are mostly placeholder text - collective submissions should have all 6, and include finalized text / language.
