Joy Buolamwini’s portrait is one of the portraits used in these videos. Buolamwini is a self-described “Poet of Code”, and does very important work exploring algorithmic bias embedded into facial recognition programs. Learn more about all of her work by following this link.

Working with the Levels Process

The videos below work with a few combinations and ranges of complexions and hair-color. Another factor to consider that I did not show much in the videos is lighting. Lighting and shadow can also have an impact on the best way to work with this specific process, so, keep this in mind when looking at the selfie image you are working with for this project.

  1. Pop out of Canvas and watch in a new tab if any of the features aren't working

  2. There are fullscreen and CC (Sub-title) options available in the right hand corner. For being YouTube auto-captions, these are pretty clear. I think they must have improved their algorithm. Please email me with any accessibility needs.
