MODULE 3: OP ART STUDIO TUTORIAL VIDEOS

OP ART + ILLUSTRATOR TUTORIAL: INTRODUCTION

STEP 1: ILLUSTRATOR BASICS + CREATING SHAPES

Additional Info:
1. In this video, I mention an "Intro to Illustrator video" at one point. After reviewing this video, I realized I had covered everything here that I did in the older Intro to Illustrator video (and the video above is actually clearer and a little more in-depth), so, to avoid redundancy, I decided not to post the older video.

2. I had my Illustrator preferences set to the "Legacy New Document" option. For most of you using CC, you probably see a slightly different "New Document" dialogue box. I have posted the correct settings for this project in the screen-shot below. To get to this option, go to File > New...

Like Photoshop, it doesn't matter what you have selected in the top menu bar or if you selected a preset on the left - whatever you input on the right-hand side (the area not blurred out) will overwrite any presets. You can also select either "CMYK" or "RGB". For those of you who might have selected something else prior to this posting, don't worry, we will keep this in mind when grading. And remember, unlike pixel images, you can enlarge or resize vector-based images while exporting as a jpg, without losing quality (in case anyone started with a smaller square).

STEP 2: DUPLICATING SHAPES, GROUPS + ALIGNMENT

STEP 3: LAYERS IN ILLUSTRATOR

STEP 4: THE PEN TOOL + TRANSFORMATION EFFECTS

More on the Pen Tool:
Just to clarify what I say in the video about using the pen tool to draw a straight line - Select the pen tool, click the mouse once to draw the start point, then click again to create additional points. If you hold down shift, it will draw a straight line. To complete the line or curve, press the hotkey 'v' to select the Selection Tool, or hold down Command (or Ctrl with Windows) and click anywhere on the Artboard.

STEP 5: MORE TRANSFORMATION TOOLS

STEP 6: EXPORTING to submit using ILLUSTRATOR

Also, a few reminders of your options with this video format:

  1. Pop out of Canvas and watch in a new tab if any of the features aren't working
  2. There are fullscreen and CC (Sub-title) options available in the right hand corner. For being YouTube auto-captions, these are pretty clear. I think they must have improved their algorithm. Please email me with any accessibility needs.
  3. If you are feeling pressed for time, but don't want to miss anything, you can watch with audio in 1.5 speed by hitting that little gear icon.
