WEEKLY DISCUSSION VIDEOS
Week 8 Animation Exercise Discussion Video
Week 5 Discussion Video
Week 4 DISCUSSION VIDEO
This week is a much shorter discussion video. For general course issues, I talk about resubmitting exercises and clarify the policy for commenting on exercises in order to receive full credit even if you ran into a technical issue that you couldn't resolve. In Photoshop, I discuss over using Color Range with Levels, issues with the Magic Wand Tool, ising Image-Based Selection Tools (like Magic Wand or Smart Selection) on different layers, and the different between Copy and Copy Merged. In Illustrator I show how to clip to the art board in both Save for Web and Export for Screens (Under Export As).
WEek 3 Discussion Video
Welcome to the first weekly discussion video of the quarter. These videos are a way for me to address the most common technical questions from the week, and also clarify things like grading policies and assignment requirements as needed.
You are required to watch at least the intros of these each week, as this is where I will be announcing any new content or course-wide changes. Once I start going through the topics, you are welcome to scrub through and jump to whatever specific questions you might still have. There is a list to the right with an orange dot that shows which questions I am covering and when, to help streamline this resource.
I want these videos to be helpful resources, and a way to bridge the disconnect that can sometimes happen with online courses. If you see a lot of your questions on the topic list, I encourage you to watch through the whole thing so you don't miss anything. This is especially important for technical issues - we won't be testing on these videos specifically, however, if we discuss and solve a common technical question in these videos, there is a good chance that tool or process will show up on the midterm.
If you are clear on all of the topics listed, after the intro, jump to the technical Photoshop discussion at the end. Even if you understand all of the processes listed, there are a few additional tips and tools that are mentioned in this section that will be helpful for future use.
This week, I made one policy change a little farther down the line - Discussion posts are now allowed to be 2 questions, 2 answers, or 1 of each. We are looking for 2 engagements - if someone has the same question as you, you can always make a note of that, (and it can be helpful for your peers to do so) but you still need to ask a different question, even if its related to this first question.
Also, a few reminders of your options with this different video format:
- Pop out of Canvas and watch in a new tab if any of the features aren't working
- There are fullscreen and CC (Sub-title) options available in the right hand corner. For being YouTube auto-captions, these are pretty clear. I think they must have improved their algorithm. Please email me with any accessibility needs.
- If you are feeling pressed for time, but don't want to miss anything, you can watch with audio in 1.5 speed by hitting that little gear icon.
