ART 80F - MODULE 1 LECTURE CONTENT
Trust + the digital image
Low Resolution, high stakes
Security + BodyCam Image Considerations
Cost Issues: More lightweight, higher resolution = higher cost
Resolution Issues: Avg. Resolution 720p - 1080p
Memory + Storage Issues: Higher res, higher storage needs + cost, usually more power / battery issues
Default Capture Settings: resolution usually higher for lighter complexions
Low-light Issues: Lower resolution in low light scenarios, IR boost is a power issue, also distorts optics
Movement: Body-cam POVs can be disorienting, distort the image / audience
Camera Position / Frame: In order to be effective, cameras must capture large field of view - lowers resolution of subjects in frame
Digital Image Enhancement
Enhancing an image from low resolution to high resolution is:
A. Impossible - you cannot gain more accurate information from a low resolution image once it has been recorded
B. Possible - you can always make a digital image or video larger using any standard pixel-based editing software and the “Enhance” or “Zoom-in” process
C. Possible, but only with complex AI graphics programs that accurately fill in the missing visual information
Potential high-stakes outcomes
Misidentification, loss of freedom, reinforces social bias patterns
